Alessandro Conti — Italian vocalist — is known for his work in Trick or Treat and in Luca Turilli's Rhapsody, two names in Italian symphonic metal. Italy holds a specific position in that genre. It was there, in the late 1990s, that Rhapsody established the format of symphonic metal with full orchestra, choir and a fantasy narrative spread across several records — a model later adopted by bands across Europe. Singing that repertoire requires very determinate traits: high range, sustained power and the ability to keep clean pitch over dense orchestral arrangements, where the voice must cut through layers of strings, choir and guitars. Conti has those tools, and that is why he was chosen for Luca Turilli's project when he reorganised his work in the 2010s. It is a circuit in which the heritage of Italian lyric singing crosses with metal — no coincidence, given that the country's operatic tradition is part of the repertoire these singers grow up with.
