Alessandro Lotta

Alessandro Lotta is an Italian bassist who was part of Rhapsody of Fire, working in the band's transitional period. His spell falls in one of the group's most unstable phases. After the 2011 split, when Luca Turilli left the band taking part of the line-up with him, Alex Staropoli had to rebuild the ensemble practically from scratch, keeping the name and the original symphonic conception. Several musicians passed through the rhythm section in that interval. The bass's function in Rhapsody's repertoire is defined by the density of the arrangements: with orchestra, choir, keyboards, two guitars and drums at high speed, the instrument has to hold the harmonic ground without occupying space already taken. It is pure support work, with little margin for individual expression. He also works in other projects of the Italian metal scene, a region that concentrates a significant part of European symphonic power metal production.
