Artist

Andrea Furlan

Andrea Furlan was a bassist in Rhapsody's early phase, in the period when the band was laying the foundations of Italian symphonic power metal. His work covers the group's first years, when Luca Turilli and Alex Staropoli were developing the conception that would lead to Legendary Tales (1997) and Symphony of Enchanted Lands (1998) — power metal written as film score music, with orchestra and choir treated as part of the composition rather than as decoration. The bass's function in that format is thankless and essential. With orchestra, choir, symphonic keyboards, two guitars and drums at high speed occupying the spectrum, the bass has to hold the harmonic foundation without competing for space — work noticed only when it is missing. His later path is thinly documented. He remains tied to the period when the band was still building the formula that would make it an international reference of the genre.
