Jango Nilsen — Scandinavian musician — works in northern Europe's hard rock and melodic metal circuit. That circuit has characteristics of its own. Since the 1980s Scandinavia has produced a disproportionate number of heavy rock bands relative to its population — partly the result of public policies on music education and access to rehearsal spaces, uncommon in other countries. The practical effect is a scene with a high average technical level and high mobility of musicians between projects. Bands form, record, stop and recompose with members who already came from other groups, and the same network feeds melodic hard rock, power metal and progressive metal at once. Musicians working in that environment tend to have discographies spread across several names, without a single band that sums up their path. It is a career model favouring continuity of work over the building of a personal brand.
