Joep Beckers

Joep Beckers — Dutch drummer — was After Forever's first drummer, during the band's formative phase in the late 1990s. That is the stage at which the group was still deciding what it would be. Sander Gommans and Mark Jansen came out of extreme metal and were experimenting with the combination — then new in the Netherlands — of heavy guitars with a classically trained female vocalist and written orchestrations. Beckers played in that initial line-up, before the arrival of André Borgman, who would hold the sticks for the whole rest of After Forever's existence. The group would debut on record with Prison of Desire (2000) and become, alongside Within Temptation and the Epica that Jansen later founded, one of the bands that established Dutch symphonic metal as a school of its own.
