Jord Otto — Dutch guitarist — was part of ReVamp, the project Floor Jansen created between the end of After Forever and her entry into Nightwish. ReVamp existed from 2009 to 2016 and produced two records: ReVamp (2010) and Wild Card (2013). It is the phase in which Jansen wrote her own material, with a result heavier and more direct than After Forever's symphonic metal — guitars in the foreground, less orchestration, personal rather than conceptual subject matter. That shift falls mainly on the guitar. In a repertoire where orchestration no longer carries the weight, it is the riff that must hold the song up, and the room for guitar arrangement is far greater than in the earlier group. Wild Card in particular has passages of near-extreme heaviness, far from anything Jansen had recorded before. The band ended when Jansen took over Nightwish's vocals for good. ReVamp remains the most authorial record of her career.
