Justin Hombach — German guitarist — is part of the Dawn of Victory project, a line-up performing Rhapsody of Fire's classic repertoire alongside singer Fabio Lione. The proposition is specific: to revisit on tour the records that defined Italian symphonic metal in the late 1990s and early 2000s — work built on full orchestra, choir, fantasy narrative and a guitar vocabulary combining neoclassicism and power metal. Performing that material live is a real technical problem. The original recordings have dozens of orchestral layers a stage band cannot reproduce entirely; the guitar has to cover part of that density while keeping the melodic lines and solos the audience knows by heart. Lione is the singer who recorded those albums, which makes the project a legitimate revisiting rather than a covers band. For the instrumentalists involved, it means playing reference repertoire beside the person who first recorded it.
