Artist

Matthias Landes

Matthias Landes — drummer — was part of ReVamp, the band Floor Jansen kept going between 2009 and 2016, after After Forever ended. ReVamp's drumming does a different job from what you hear in symphonic metal. With no orchestration to fill the space, the music's weight comes from the rhythm section, and the repertoire alternates fast passages with heavy, square-tempo stretches closer to modern metal than to European power metal. Wild Card (2013), the second and last record, is the clearest example of that direction — an album of unusual heaviness for a classically trained singer, with tracks that approach extreme metal at moments. ReVamp ended when Jansen took over Nightwish's vocals for good. It was only two records and seven years of activity, but they correspond to the period in which one of European metal's leading voices worked with total freedom over her own material.
