Bobby Jarzombek — born in the United States in 1963 — has been Fates Warning's drummer since 2007, and is one of the most sought-after instrumentalists in American metal. His mark is precision in irregular metres. Playing time signatures that change with every section without the music losing flow is structural reading, and it is exactly what Fates Warning's repertoire demands — Jim Matheos's compositions rarely return to their starting point. His path crosses distinct territories of metal. He was the drummer of Riot, the American heavy metal band of the 1970s and 1980s, and was part of the solo band of Rob Halford, Judas Priest's singer, during the period when he was working outside his main group. He has also worked with Sebastian Bach and on numerous recordings as a hired musician. He replaced Mark Zonder, whose style was built on restraint and space. Jarzombek brought a denser and more technically explicit approach, without undoing the band's compositional logic — he recorded Darkness in a Different Light (2013), Theories of Flight (2016) and Long Day Good Night (2020).
