Bobby Scruggs

Bobby Scruggs — American drummer — was part of A Day to Remember in the initial line-up, in the period before the band's national recognition. He was in the group when it was still a band from Ocala, a small Florida town with no significant heavy rock circuit, playing for a local audience. Nothing suggested A Day to Remember would come to enter the American charts or that its formula — pop punk and metalcore alternating within the same song — would become a model for a whole generation of bands. That phase produced And Their Name Was Treason (2005), a debut record made with limited means and restricted distribution. It is the document of a group still testing the combination that would define it: the elements are already there, but without the production and the precision of execution Homesick (2009) would bring. Scruggs belongs to that beginning — the period when the band's central idea was still an improbable wager, at a moment when the pop punk and metalcore audiences loathed each other.
