Dennis Leeflang

Dennis Leeflang — Dutch drummer — works in the international metal circuit, with work in bands and projects of diverse origins. The Netherlands hold a disproportionate position in European metal. A small country produced Within Temptation, Epica, After Forever, Delain and Ayreon — all within the same field of symphonic and progressive metal — and, with them, a network of musicians and engineers supplying those projects and circulating among them. Drummers in that network work with repertoire of high technical demand: orchestrations requiring metrical precision, frequent tempo changes and clean production in which any imprecision is exposed. It is a context where recording fast and right is worth more than any demonstrative virtuosity. Leeflang built a career in that environment and in international projects, common practice among Dutch instrumentalists — the local circuit is too small to absorb all the musicians it trains, and the natural outlet is work outside the country.
