Dirk Verbeuren has been Megadeth's drummer since 2016, and came from more extreme territory than the band's. Born in Belgium in 1975, he built his reputation in Soilwork, the Swedish melodic death metal group where he played for twelve years, and has amassed an unusual number of credits as a session musician — hundreds of recordings, across bands of very different profiles. That studio routine explains what he offers: adaptability and a precision that does not falter at any tempo. Verbeuren commands blast beats and double kick at extreme speed, a resource Megadeth's classic thrash never asked for, but his real value lies elsewhere — in the ability to execute complex arrangements exactly as written, take after take, without losing weight. He joined in 2016, replacing Chris Adler, who had recorded Dystopia and could not reconcile two bands on tour. He took over the road first and the studio afterwards, recording The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead! (2022) and the self-titled album released in January 2026, announced as the group's final studio record and the first to reach the top of the Billboard 200. Away from music he is an animal rights activist and a declared vegan, a subject he addresses publicly and regularly.
