Eloy Casagrande has been Slipknot's drummer since 2024, and his path is one of the most remarkable ever taken by a Brazilian musician in international metal. Born in São Paulo in 1991, he started early: he was the drummer of Andre Matos's solo band between 2007 and 2011, still a teenager, playing alongside one of the central figures of Brazilian metal. In 2011 he joined Sepultura, where he stayed for thirteen years and recorded the albums of the group's most recent phase, becoming one of the most respected drummers in the country. His departure in 2024 was abrupt and widely reported: he left Sepultura shortly before the start of the band's farewell tour, and the reason emerged soon after — he had been invited into Slipknot, in place of Jay Weinberg. Trading an institution of Brazilian metal for the American band, and doing so at that moment, drew considerable reaction on both sides. His playing combines extreme speed, limb independence and the precision Slipknot's repertoire demands — material originally written by Joey Jordison, which sets one of the hardest technical standards in the genre.
