Eric Singer — American drummer born in 1958 — is one of hard rock's most sought-after studio and stage musicians, and Kiss's drummer for most of the last three decades. Before Kiss he had already built a notable record: he played with Black Sabbath in the Tony Martin era, with Badlands and, for many years, with Alice Cooper — three fairly different musical contexts, which says something about his versatility. He also recorded with Avantasia, the German symphonic metal project. He joined Kiss in 1991 and made Revenge (1992), the record that gave the band its weight back after the lighter 1980s. He stepped aside for the classic line-up's 1996 reunion, returned in 2001 and has been the fixed drummer since 2004, through Sonic Boom (2009), Monster (2012) and the farewell tour that ended in December 2023. From 2004 he took on the Catman makeup created by Peter Criss — a decision that divided the audience, because it turns the character into a role rather than a person. It is an argument about what Kiss exactly is: a band or a brand. On the practical side, Singer is the one who has held the band up on stage for nearly twenty years.
