Greyson Nekrutman — American drummer — has been part of Sepultura since 2024, in the band's final period of activity. His background is about as improbable as possible for that chair: he began playing jazz and big band, with traditional grip and a swing vocabulary, and drew attention on the internet while still a teenager performing Buddy Rich's repertoire. The move to extreme metal came later, and crossing from one world to the other is rare in either direction. Taking Sepultura's drum seat means performing almost forty years of rhythmic material written by Igor Cavalera — who created a vocabulary of his own by bringing Brazilian maracatu patterns and Afro-Brazilian percussion into the structure of metal on Chaos A.D. (1993) and Roots (1996). It is not a repertoire solved by speed: it requires understanding a specific rhythmic writing and reproducing it with the same character. His entry comes in the context of the farewell tour announced by Sepultura, which makes his spell the last drum chair in the history of one of the most important bands ever to emerge from outside the United States–Europe axis.
