Guido Zima

Guido Zima has been Paradise Lost's drummer since 2023, part of the band's most recent line-up. His arrival comes at a specific moment: after two decades with Adrian Erlandsson on drums, the group was in the middle of recovering its original weight — the death-doom it had founded in the 1990s and abandoned during the following decade. Records such as Medusa (2017) and Obsidian (2020) had placed the band back in that territory. The function is demanding for a reason that is not technical. Paradise Lost's repertoire works at slow tempos, and in that format every stroke is exposed: there is no speed to cover imprecision, and the interval between one attack and the next is long enough for any variation to be audible. Playing slowly with constant weight is harder than playing fast. He is part of the current line-up alongside Nick Holmes, Greg Mackintosh, Aaron Aedy and Steve Edmondson, taking part in Ascension (2025).
