Kevin Codfert — French keyboardist and producer — is a central piece of the sound of Myrath, the Tunisian band combining progressive metal with the musical tradition of the Maghreb. His function goes beyond the keyboard. Codfert also produces the records, and in a project like Myrath the two are inseparable: the band works with Arabic instruments, orchestrations, choirs and heavy guitars simultaneously, and organising those layers so none cancels another is production work as much as arrangement. The keyboard specifically is where the orchestrations live. The strings, the traditional percussive elements and the textures that give Myrath its character pass through there — and the challenge is to use them as part of the composition rather than as exotic ornament over a generic metal base. The result is audible on Tales of the Sands (2011), Legacy (2016), Shehili (2019) and Karma (2024): records in which the band's Tunisian origin is a structural element, not seasoning. Few bands outside the Europe–United States axis have achieved that balance.
