Nigel Glockler has been Saxon's drummer since 1981, with occasional absences over the years, and is the member who has held the post longest in the band's history. Born in 1953, he came in replacing Pete Gill and debuted on Denim and Leather (1981). His playing is a matter of precision and endurance. Saxon's repertoire rests on high tempos sustained across whole tracks, with firm marking and short fills — work that demands physical constancy before it demands invention, and which he has been delivering for more than four decades, from Power & the Glory (1983) to Hell, Fire and Damnation (2024). In 2014 he suffered a brain aneurysm that required emergency surgery and kept him away temporarily. He recovered and returned to the band, remaining active ever since.
