Owe Lingvall

Owe Lingvall — Swedish drummer — has been part of Nocturnal Rites since 1998, the third and longest-serving occupant of the position in the band's history. His entry coincides with The Sacred Talisman (1999) and he remains to this day, which makes him the drummer of all the group's relevant phases: the Swedish power metal of the late 1990s, the modern turn from Shadowland (2002), the peak with New World Messiah (2004) and Grand Illusion (2006), and the return with Phoenix (2017) after nine years of silence. That continuity matters because the drums changed function midway. In power metal, the base was continuous double bass at fast tempo; in the sound the band adopted afterwards, tempos dropped to the middle range and the weight came instead from the exact placing of the strokes and the space between them — an opposite approach, demanding restraint rather than speed. With Fredrik Mannberg and Nils Eriksson, he forms the core of three musicians that has sustained Nocturnal Rites for more than two and a half decades.
