Philip Krause — drummer — was part of Trillium, the authorial project of singer and songwriter Amanda Somerville. Trillium has two records, Alloy (2011) and Tectonic (2018), seven years apart — an interval reflecting the project's nature: Somerville kept an intense schedule throughout her career as a vocal coach and guest singer in European metal, with work tied to Avantasia, Epica, Kamelot and Aina, and Trillium is the space in which she appears as principal author. Drums in this kind of repertoire serve as anchor. The compositions depend on vocal and orchestral layers stacked in the studio, and it is the drums that keep the whole tied to metal's metre rather than letting it slide into the territory of amplified chamber music.
