Ray Luzier — born in the United States in 1970 — has been Korn's drummer since 2007, and is the member who gave the band rhythmic stability after David Silveria's departure. His earlier path is quite distinct from nu metal territory. He was the drummer in the solo band of David Lee Roth, Van Halen's original singer, and worked in hard rock, session and teaching contexts — the path of a technically trained instrumentalist, used to repertoires demanding reading and versatility. That training explains his function in Korn. The band's repertoire depends on groove, not speed, and demands precision in syncopated patterns that leave deliberate space between strokes. At the same time, the albums after 2007 took in electronic elements, programming and more open structures — on The Path of Totality (2011) the band recorded with dubstep producers, which requires the drummer to play against synthetic backing. He is today the longest-serving drummer in the group's history, present across all the recent output, from The Paradigm Shift (2013) to Requiem (2022).
