Richard Larsson — Swedish musician — works in the metal and heavy rock circuit of Scandinavia. The Swedish scene has a distinguishing characteristic: the coexistence of very different subgenres within the same structure. The country produced simultaneously the melodic death metal of Gothenburg, the melodic hard rock of the 1980s, power metal, doom and progressive metal — all with continuous output and audiences of their own. That diversity has a practical consequence: Swedish musicians often move between genres that in other countries would be separate territories. A player may record death metal one month and melodic hard rock the next, because the professional network is the same and the studios serve all of them. The result is a scene with a high degree of internal circulation and musicians with a broad technical repertoire. It is less common in Sweden to find a player specialised in a single subgenre — the norm is versatility.
