Stefan Norgren

Stefan Norgren — Swedish drummer — has been Seventh Wonder's drummer since 2011, having succeeded founder Johnny Sandin. He joined at a delicate moment. The band was coming off The Great Escape (2010), a record closed by a title track over thirty minutes long, and soon afterwards vocalist Tommy Karevik was invited to front Kamelot as well — which put Seventh Wonder in a holding pattern of nearly eight years between studio albums. When the band returned, with Tiara (2018) and The Testament (2022), Norgren was there. These are albums of long structures and irregular metres whose axis is nonetheless vocal melody; the drums must supply complexity without drawing attention to themselves, and that is what he does. Seventh Wonder is a case of a band surviving its own singer's success in another group — a situation that usually dissolves bands. The staying power of musicians like Norgren, alongside the founding core, is what made it possible.
