Tom Diener — musician — works in the European metal and heavy rock circuit. Over four decades continental Europe built the most complete infrastructure metal has anywhere in the world. Germany, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and Italy maintain large festivals, specialist labels with decades of operation, studios dedicated to the genre and a touring circuit allowing mid-sized bands to work professionally. That structure is why bands from other continents seek the European market. A Brazilian, Japanese or American melodic metal group often finds in Europe working conditions that do not exist in its own country — a label willing to invest, festivals that pay fees, an audience large enough to make touring viable. For European musicians it means operating inside a system that works. It is not abundance — metal remains a niche genre — but it is enough predictability for a professional career to be possible.
