Tommy Clufetos is the drummer who accompanied Ozzy Osbourne through the last phase of his career, and one of the few musicians to play both with the singer solo and with a reunited Black Sabbath. Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1979, he started early and built a career backing heavyweight names: Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie, before joining Ozzy's band in 2010. His style is brute force and physical presence — heavy kick, wide cymbals, a way of playing that fills the space and works particularly well on 1970s repertoire, written when drums were still the engine of the music rather than its metronome. That is why he ended up on Black Sabbath's stage as well: he backed the band on the tours Bill Ward did not take part in, including the farewell, The End, in 2017. That double role gave him an unusual position. Few drummers have played Sabbath's repertoire before audiences worldwide without being a member of the band, and he did so for years, carrying material whose rhythmic identity belongs to another musician. He was among those who took the stage at Ozzy's farewell show in Birmingham in July 2025, closing fifteen years of work alongside the singer.
