Dimmu Borgir

Dimmu Borgir is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band formed near Oslo in 1993. After early raw releases, Enthrone Darkness Triumphant (1997) introduced English lyrics and denser production, launching the band toward international recognition. Through Godless Savage Garden (1998), Spiritual Black Dimensions (1999), and Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia (2001), the band progressively layered orchestral keyboards and clean vocals, defining symphonic black metal. This peaked with Death Cult Armageddon (2003), recorded with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, and In Sorte Diaboli (2007), the first black metal record to top Norwegian charts. Despite lineup instability, the band continued with Abrahadabra (2010) and Eonian (2018). Nearly three decades on, Dimmu Borgir remains one of extreme metal's most commercially successful and influential acts.
