Alexandre Callari

Alexandre Callari — Brazilian drummer — was part of Delpht, a power metal band formed in the late 1990s. Delpht recorded Screams of Ice (2000) and Living in Fantasy (2005), two independent albums documenting the Brazilian power metal scene of that period — active, technically competent and practically without industry support. Power metal drumming is among the most physically demanding in metal. High-speed double bass must be sustained through songs of five or six minutes without tempo drift, then repeated across a whole concert. It is a technique learned through years of study — and in 1990s Brazil, with no specialised drumming school and no accessible reference material, it was learned by listening to records and trying to reproduce them. Callari belongs to that generation of musicians who trained themselves and sustained the national scene at a time when making metal in Brazil was, above all, a decision of stubbornness.
