Art Cruz — born in the United States in 1988 — has been Lamb of God's drummer since 2019, having replaced founder Chris Adler. The succession was about as hard as they come. Adler was not merely the original drummer: his rhythmic writing — fast double kick combined with displaced accents that converse with the riff rather than support it — is constitutive of what Lamb of God sounds like. Taking that chair means performing on tour twenty years of material built on a highly personal vocabulary, without simplifying and without imitating. Cruz came from Prong and Winds of Plague, and joined first as a touring stand-in before becoming an official member. He recorded Lamb of God (2020), Omens (2022) and Into Oblivion (2026) — three records that kept the band in full activity after a transition that could have halted it. His stay confirmed that Lamb of God could carry on without one of its founders, something few bands with that much road behind them manage.
