Daniel Mullback — born in Sweden in 1977 — was Sabaton's drummer between 2001 and 2012, a period covering the band's entire classic line-up. He recorded Primo Victoria (2005), Attero Dominatus (2006), Metalizer (2007), The Art of War (2008), Coat of Arms (2010) and Carolus Rex (2012) — the discography with which the group left Falun, a small town in inland Sweden, and reached the main European festivals. His function is defined by the band's subject matter. Sabaton writes about military history, and the drums have to produce a martial feeling: firm tempos, clear marking and patterns evoking the cadence of marching troops. There is no room for complex variation — the aim is for the audience to be able to follow, sing and keep the beat together, which demands deliberate simplicity and absolute precision. He left the group in 2012 together with Rikard Sundén, Oskar Montelius and Daniel Mÿhr, in the collective departure that reduced the band to two members and forced a complete rebuilding of the line-up.
