Daniel Mÿhr — born in Sweden in 1980 — was Sabaton's keyboard player between 2005 and 2012, a period covering the band's classic line-up. He was on Primo Victoria (2005), Attero Dominatus (2006), The Art of War (2008), Coat of Arms (2010) and Carolus Rex (2012) — the run in which the group established its identity and went from a regional band to an international name in power metal. His function is decisive in the sound of that period. Sabaton writes about military history, and the keyboard arrangements are what give the records their epic dimension: orchestral layers, synthetic choirs and melodic themes evoking film score music. Without that element the compositions would be only direct riffs with a broad chorus. Carolus Rex, his last album with the band, is the most ambitious in that respect — a concept album about the seventeenth-century Swedish Empire, recorded in Swedish and English versions, with elaborate symphonic arrangements. He left the group in 2012, together with three other members, in the rupture that forced Joakim Brodén and Pär Sundström to rebuild the line-up.
