Daniel Wilding

Daniel Wilding — born in England in 1980 — has been Carcass's drummer since 2012, and is the one who carried the band's return after seventeen years without a studio album. He joined to record Surgical Steel (2013), a record critics treated as an improbable return — bands that come back after so long rarely produce material comparable to the old, and this one was received as standing beside Heartwork (1993). His function carries a particular demand: reproducing the rhythmic language Ken Owen had built on the classic records, knowing his predecessor could no longer play full-time because of the after-effects of a brain haemorrhage. It is work of continuity under observation, in a repertoire combining blast beats, changes of metre and melodic sections that require dynamic control. He also recorded Torn Arteries (2021) and remains in the band's current line-up, alongside Bill Steer and Jeff Walker.
