Dave Mackintosh — born in Scotland in 1970 — was the drummer of DragonForce's classic line-up, between 2004 and 2014. His role is the most physically extreme in the band. DragonForce's repertoire is played at tempos above 200 beats per minute, with continuous double kick in tracks running past seven minutes — a demand of muscular and cardiovascular endurance comparable to an athlete's, sustained across a whole show night after night. Under that regime Mackintosh recorded Inhuman Rampage (2006), the record of "Through the Fire and Flames", as well as Ultra Beatdown (2008), The Power Within (2012) and Maximum Overload (2014). These are the years in which the band went from a name in the power metal circuit to a phenomenon of global reach, with heavily scheduled world tours. He came from Bal-Sagoth, the English symphonic black metal band — an origin that explains the speed he brought to DragonForce, and that places him in the same lineage of extreme metal drummers who migrated to melodic formats without losing their underlying technique.
