Enrico Bagnato

Enrico Bagnato — Brazilian drummer — was part of Mitrium, the São Paulo band that recorded Eyes of Time (1993). Context matters here more than the discography. Mitrium existed between 1990 and 1994, a period when making metal in Brazil meant producing everything yourself: rehearsal paid out of pocket, recording in a cheap studio, pressing funded by the band and promotion by fanzine and word of mouth. No national label worked the genre. Eyes of Time became known for carrying Edu Falaschi's recording debut, the future Angra singer. But the album's documentary value goes beyond that: it records what a Brazilian melodic metal band was producing before any market prospect for the genre existed in the country. Mitrium ended in 1994. It is one of dozens of bands whose work had no continuation, but which formed the ground from which came the generation that put Brazilian metal on the international circuit.
