Mitrium were a Brazilian heavy metal band formed in São Vicente, on the coast of São Paulo state, in the early 1990s. Their historical importance is greater than the discography suggests: this was Edu Falaschi's first professional band, and he would go on years later to become one of Brazilian metal's best-known voices, fronting Angra and later a solo career. The line-up gathered Falaschi on vocals, Nick Guttera and Fefo Ribeiro on guitars, Paulo Ribeiro on bass and Enrico Bagnato on drums. The sound followed the melodic heavy metal that dominated Brazil's independent scene at the time, with clear influence from the European bands reaching the country through alternative channels — tapes, fanzines and the small-venue circuit of the Santos coastal region and Greater São Paulo. The group's only recording is the 1993 demo Eyes of Time, later issued as a split. It was the production standard available to an independent Brazilian band in the early 1990s: modest recording, limited distribution and circulation through fan trading. Even so, the material served as a calling card and helped establish Falaschi's name on the scene. Mitrium ceased activity in 1994. Shortly after, Falaschi moved on to Symbols alongside his brother Tito Falaschi, and in the early 2000s took over vocals in Angra, succeeding Andre Matos. For audiences following the path of Brazilian metal, Mitrium is above all a point of origin — the record of where one of the genre's most durable careers in the country began.
