Felix Bohnke — born in Germany in 1974 — has been Edguy's drummer since 1998 and is a recurring member of Avantasia, Tobias Sammet's side project. His stay in Edguy spans the band's whole mature discography, from Theater of Salvation (1999) to Monuments (2017), crossing the epic power metal of the beginning, the straight hard rock of Rocket Ride (2006) and the return to the classic format. Those are three distinct rhythmic regimes: fast double kick, mid-tempo groove, and the combination of the two. His role in Avantasia is what widens his importance. Sammet's project is a rock opera with dozens of guest vocalists from different bands, recorded with orchestra and choir and performed live on large-scale tours. The drums have to sustain arrangements that change character from track to track and accommodate singers of completely distinct schools — work closer to a studio musician's than to a band drummer's. With Jens Ludwig, Dirk Sauer and Tobias Exxel, he forms the core that made Edguy one of the few metal bands to keep the same line-up for two decades.
