Jason Bowld — British drummer — has been Bullet for My Valentine's drummer since the second half of the 2010s, in the band's current line-up. He arrived with a résumé unconventional for metalcore: Bowld came from Pitchshifter, the 1990s English industrial metal band, and from work as a session musician and electronic drum programmer. That origin matters, because the Bullet for My Valentine of the recent records — Gravity (2018) and the self-titled Bullet for My Valentine (2021) — incorporates electronic elements and production textures the band's early phase did not have. Gravity was the most divisive record of the group's career, precisely because of that opening; the following album answered with the heaviest material the band had ever recorded. Playing both extremes requires a drummer with a broad technical vocabulary, and that is what Bowld brings. The current line-up — Matt Tuck, Michael Paget, Bowld and bass — keeps the band active two decades after the debut, in a genre where few names of that generation are still recording new material.
