Jimmy Kresic

Jimmy Kresic — keyboardist — was part of Kiske/Somerville, the project that brought Michael Kiske and Amanda Somerville together around melodic metal repertoire. The meeting carries specific weight. Kiske was Helloween's singer during the Keeper of the Seven Keys records — the work that created German power metal as a genre — and spent years away from metal before returning to that part of his career. Somerville is one of the most present figures in European symphonic metal, both as performer and as vocal coach. The project explores the combination of two strong voices of very different timbre: Kiske's high, clean, technically exact register and Somerville's voice, warmer and broader in texture. It is a format requiring arrangements written specifically for that alternation. The keyboard in this context holds the harmonic layers giving both voices room — arrangement work rather than instrumental prominence.
