Jon Rice

Jon Rice has been In Flames's official drummer since 2026, part of the band's most recent line-up. His earlier path runs through different strands of American extreme metal. He played in Job for a Cowboy, the Arizona death metal band, and worked as a hired and touring drummer on various projects through the 2010s — the path of a sought-after musician who moves between groups rather than settling into one. Taking In Flames's drum seat imposes a double demand. The band's repertoire covers more than thirty years and crosses distinct registers: the constant speed and guitar harmonies of the 1990s Gothenburg records, and the more open structures, at mid tempo and with variable dynamics, that the group adopted from the 2000s. Playing both in the same show means moving between rhythmic logics that barely speak to one another. He is part of the current line-up alongside Anders Fridén, Björn Gelotte, Chris Broderick and Liam Wilson.
