Luke Holland — American drummer — is part of Falling in Reverse, and built his reputation by a route that barely existed before his generation. He drew attention by posting videos online in which he performs other bands' tracks with extreme precision, filmed with multiple cameras and studio quality. That format — the drummer as interpreter of other people's repertoire, in visual record — built him an audience of millions before any link with a band of standing. It is a path impossible in any earlier decade. His playing comes from progressive metal and djent: irregular metres, displaced accents, limb independence pushed to its limit. Applying that to Falling in Reverse's repertoire — which combines metalcore, rap, electronic pop and ballad in tracks that switch register without warning — means articulating transitions between sections of completely distinct character, keeping continuity where the material could sound like a collage. Beyond the band he keeps his own work and collaborations in the American circuit, working as a studio musician in contexts reaching well beyond heavy rock.
