Marcelo Moreira

Marcelo Moreira — Brazilian drummer — was part of Almah between 2008 and 2015, the band's most productive period. He joined the line-up that turned Almah from Edu Falaschi's solo project into an actual band, and recorded Fragile Equality (2008), Motion (2011) and Unfold (2013) — the records on which the group defined a sound of its own, heavier and less epic than Angra's power metal, with which Falaschi was identified. That repertoire demands of the drums an approach different from traditional power metal. Almah worked with varied tempos, heavy sections in mid metre and less predictable structures, which means articulating transitions rather than sustaining constant speed — an inheritance closer to progressive metal and 1990s American metal than to the European school. His seven years also cover the band's hardest period: the death of guitarist Paulo Schroeber in 2014, and the reformulation of the line-up that followed.
