Mark Cross — born in 1965 — was Firewind's drummer between 2006 and 2010, and also had a spell in Helloween. His path crosses several central bands of European power metal: besides Helloween, he played in Metalium and Kingdom Come, moving between Germany and the genre's international circuit. That places him among the drummers called on reputation, brought in when a band needs someone who has already handled this kind of repertoire at world-tour level. In Firewind he was part of the classic line-up — the one that recorded Allegiance (2006), The Premonition (2008) and Days of Defiance (2010) — the period in which the band went from a name in the Greek circuit to a group with international reach, with Apollo Papathanasio on vocals and Gus G. as composer. These are the records on which Firewind consolidated its formula: melodic power metal at fast tempo, with keyboard and guitar sharing solos in neoclassical vocabulary. For the drums, that means holding constant speed without burying the melodic layers that occupy the foreground.
