Firewind is a Greek power metal band from Thessaloniki, built around guitarist Gus G. It began in 1998 as a vehicle for his demo Nocturnal Symphony, becoming a working group in 2002 with the debut Between Heaven and Hell. Forged by Fire (2005) came via Century Media. The band's most commercially visible era began when Apollo Papathanasio took over vocals for Allegiance (2006), whose single "Falling to Pieces" became their signature song. Gus G's profile rose sharply in 2009 when he was chosen as Ozzy Osbourne's lead guitarist, playing on Scream (2010) and touring with him until 2017. Vocalist turnover has been the band's constant: Henning Basse fronted Immortals (2017), then Herbie Langhans sang on Firewind (2020) and Stand United (2024). In 2025 Basse returned. Past their twenty-fifth anniversary, Firewind stand as one of Greece's most successful metal exports, with ten studio albums.
