Marthus — born in the Czech Republic in 1981, given name Martin Škaroupka — has been Cradle of Filth's drummer since 2006, the longest-serving in the band's history. His stay of nearly two decades is remarkable in a group whose only constant is Dani Filth: Marthus has crossed every reformulation of the line-up since Thornography (2006) and recorded nine albums, including Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder (2008), Hammer of the Witches (2015), Existence Is Futile (2021) and The Screaming of the Valkyries (2025). His function goes beyond the drums. Marthus also writes and performs keyboard and orchestral arrangements — a central part of Cradle of Filth's identity, which builds its tracks on symphonic layers laid over extreme metal. Combining both functions in a repertoire that joins blast beats to orchestral writing is unusual, and explains why he became a structural piece of the band and not merely the occupant of a chair. He comes from the Czech Republic, a country without tradition in British or Scandinavian extreme metal, and today holds the position of second-longest-standing member of Cradle of Filth after Dani Filth himself.
