Robert Ortiz — American drummer — is a co-founder of Escape the Fate and the only member present across the band's entire history, from 2004 to today. That permanence has concrete weight. Escape the Fate lost original vocalist Ronnie Radke in 2008, changed bassist and guitarist several times and went through label and sonic-direction shifts — from the rawer post-hardcore of Dying Is Your Latest Fashion (2006) to the wide-chorus melodic rock of the records with Craig Mabbitt. Ortiz is the thread running through all of it, present on all eight albums, from 2006 to Out of the Shadows (2023). Together with Max Green in the early years he formed the rhythm foundation of the line-up that broke out of the Las Vegas scene in the mid-2000s, as American post-hardcore was gaining a mass audience. In the later phases he also took on the role of keeper of the group's identity — the reference each new member adjusts to. In bands that survive changes of this magnitude there is almost always someone in that position. In Escape the Fate, it is the drummer.
