Scott Warren

Scott Warren was Dio's keyboardist between 1993 and 2010, the longest spell of any musician in that role in the band's history. Born in 1962, he joined in the phase when Dio abandoned the broad production of the 1980s and adopted a more direct, darker sound, audible on Strange Highways (1993) and Angry Machines (1996). His function followed that change. Where Claude Schnell worked with wide atmospheric layers, Warren operates more sparingly, with pointed interventions and textures that reinforce the weight of the guitars rather than soften it. He is on the whole output of the band's final phase, from Magica (2000) to Master of the Moon (2004). He stayed until Ronnie James Dio's death in 2010, and also accompanied Heaven & Hell, the reunion of Black Sabbath's Dio line-up, on its performances. He went on afterwards in Dio Disciples.
