Stéfane Funèbre — Powerwolf's drummer between 2004 and 2010 — was in the band throughout its first phase. He recorded the first three albums: Return in Bloodred (2005), Lupus Dei (2007) and Bible of the Beast (2009). These are the records on which Powerwolf's concept was assembled and tested — name, characters, church organ, Gregorian choirs and inverted religious subject matter were all present from the start, with no period of groping. This is Powerwolf before it became a festival phenomenon. The records of that phase circulated among a specific European power metal audience, and it was only with Blood of the Saints (2011) — by then with Roel van Helden on drums — that the band began filling main stages across Europe. His departure in 2010 is the only line-up change in the group's history, which has kept the same five musicians ever since. Funèbre therefore belongs to the only different configuration Powerwolf has ever had.
