Zaher Zorgati — Tunisian vocalist — is the voice of Myrath, the band that put North African metal on the international map. Myrath makes progressive metal with the melodies, scales and instrumentation of the Maghreb — and that is exactly where Zorgati's voice becomes the decisive element. He sings with the melismatic ornamentation of the Arabic tradition, a vocal technique absent from European metal's vocabulary and not learnable by imitation: it comes from training in traditional Tunisian music. Over a base of heavy guitars and keyboards, that produces a result no other band in the genre can reproduce. The discography follows this maturing: Hope (2007) and Desert Call (2010) still searching for an identity, Tales of the Sands (2011) as the record that settled the formula, then Legacy (2016), Shehili (2019) — with lyrics in Arabic — and Karma (2024). Myrath is today the best-known metal band in the Arab world and one of the few from outside the Europe–United States axis to reach an international audience without giving up its own musical origin. Zorgati's voice is the main reason for that.
