At Vance is a German neoclassical power metal band founded in 1998 by guitarist Olaf Lenk together with vocalist Oliver Hartmann. Signing with Shark Records, the band released its debut album No Escape in 1999. The follow-up, Heart of Steel (2000), became a surprise hit in Japan, followed by Dragonchaser (2001). After moving to AFM Records, At Vance released Only Human (2002). A major lineup shakeup followed in 2003: Hartmann departed and was replaced by Swedish vocalist Mats Levén for The Evil in You (2003). Levén fronted the band through Chained (2005) before leaving in 2007. That year, singer Rick Altzi joined, recording VII (2007), Ride the Sky (2009), and Facing Your Enemy (2012), the band's most recent studio album. Throughout every lineup change, Olaf Lenk has remained the sole constant member and primary songwriter, known for his neoclassical shred guitar style. Since the mid-2010s, At Vance has been largely inactive, retaining a cult following in the European and Japanese power metal scenes.
