Tim Rashid

Germany

Tim Rashid — German bassist — was part of At Vance in the line-up following the classic phase, in the period with Rick Altzi on vocals. He was in the band when At Vance had already consolidated its formula: neoclassical power metal with literal adaptations of classical pieces by Vivaldi, Beethoven and Mozart, written by Olaf Lenk — the only constant member throughout the group's history. The records of that phase include VII (2007), Ride the Sky (2009) and Facing Your Enemy (2012). His function carries a difficulty ordinary power metal does not present. In tracks derived from a classical score, the harmonic progression does not follow a riff's logic: the cadences resolve at points that sound unexpected to the metal vocabulary, and the bass has to make that harmony legible within a rock band's foundation. In the band's own material the demand is the genre's usual: following the guitars in unison at fast tempo, with clean articulation and no lag against the double kick — work noticed only when it fails.
