Alex Camargo

Brazil

Alex Camargo — Brazilian vocalist and bassist — is one of the three brothers who founded Krisiun in 1990 and the band's voice across its entire discography. Krisiun is, alongside Sepultura, the Brazilian extreme metal band with the widest international reach. It was born in Ijuí, in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, far from any musical centre, and reached the world death metal circuit through twelve records made across thirty years — from Black Force Domain (1995) to Mortem Solis (2022). Camargo's vocals are deep guttural, without melody, with diction articulated enough for the lyrics to be distinguishable — which is uncommon in the genre. Combining bass and voice in a repertoire of that speed is technically demanding: it means keeping fast, precise lines while singing in a technique that consumes breath. The permanence of the same three brothers for more than three decades, without a single line-up change, is practically without parallel in world extreme metal. That stability is what explains Krisiun's sonic coherence record after record.
